A long letter to your girlfriend, in your own words
Written by hand · Sealed with wax · Sent as one link
Most men who sit down to write this get stuck on the first line, because they are trying to say everything at once. A long letter works when it is built from a few real moments, not from big statements about forever, and it does not need to be polished to sound like you.

Ways to begin
“I've started this letter four times now, which is probably the most honest way to tell you that some things are easier for me to write than to say.”
“It's been a year since that night we got lost looking for the restaurant, and I think that was the night I knew.”
“There are things I never say out loud because I get nervous and make a joke instead, so here they are, without the joke.”
What to write
1. Build the letter on three or four specific memories, such as a trip, a bad day she got you through, or something small she does every morning. Details she can picture feel more sincere than adjectives like amazing or perfect.
2. Include one thing you struggle to say aloud, and say it plainly: an apology, a fear, or what you noticed about her early on. Skip lines you have seen on cards, such as 'you complete me' or 'my everything'.
3. Give it a simple shape: where we started, what you have meant to me since, and what I want for us next. Close with one concrete promise or plan, not a grand vow, and read it aloud once to cut anything that sounds like someone else.
Frequently asked questions
Q. How long should a heartfelt letter to my girlfriend be?
Long enough to hold a few real memories and one honest confession, which is usually between one and two pages of handwriting. Length matters less than detail, so if a paragraph says nothing specific, cut it and keep the ones only you could have written.
Q. Can I send it so she only opens it on our anniversary?
Yes. Set the opening date and the letter unlocks at 00:00 that day. You send one link by any messenger, text or email, and she opens it in a browser with no app and no sign-up. You can also add a password that only you tell her. Writing, sealing and sending are free.
