A first anniversary letter that sounds like your year, not a card
Written by hand · Sealed with wax · Sent as one link
After one year, the best parts are rarely the big events. They're the small things only the two of you know: a joke that started in March, the way they hold the umbrella. A good anniversary letter picks a few of those and says what they mean to you now.

Ways to begin
“A year ago I didn't know you take forever to choose a restaurant, and now I'd wait an hour for you to decide.”
“I was looking at our photos from this year and realized the ones I love most are the boring ones, where we're just on the couch.”
“Happy one year. I wanted to write this down, because I'm better at saying it on paper than out loud.”
What to write
1. Pick three specific moments from the year instead of summarizing all twelve months. A late-night drive, a bad day they got you through, a trip that went wrong and became a favorite story.
2. Say what you've learned about them or about yourself since you got together. It tells them how they've changed your life without you having to use big words.
3. Skip the list of adjectives like amazing and perfect. End with one concrete thing you're looking forward to in the next year, like a trip, a habit or a plan.
Frequently asked questions
Q. How do I sum up a whole year without sounding generic?
Don't try to cover everything. Choose two or three small memories, describe exactly what happened, and add one sentence on why it stuck with you. Specific details read as sincere in a way that general statements can't.
Q. Can I make sure it only opens on our anniversary?
Yes. Set an opening date and the letter unlocks at 00:00 that day. You can send the link ahead of time through any messenger, text or email, and your partner can open it in a browser with no app or sign-up. You can also add a password if you want it to stay private.
