An apology letter to your boyfriend that owns what you did
Written by hand · Sealed with wax · Sent as one link
When you hurt someone you love, the urge is to explain, and the explanation usually sounds like a defense. He mostly wants to know that you understand exactly what you did and how it landed on him. A good apology names the specific thing, says sorry once and plainly, and says what you will do differently.

Ways to begin
“I'm writing because I said something on Saturday that I can't take back, and I don't want to talk around it. I called you lazy in front of your friends, and I'm sorry.”
“I lied to you about where I was that night. There's no good reason for it, and I'm not going to give you one here.”
“I've replayed how I spoke to you on the phone, and I understand now why you went quiet. You deserved better from me, and I'm sorry I made you feel small.”
What to write
1. Name the exact thing you did, in one plain sentence. Vague lines like "I'm sorry for everything" make him feel you haven't really looked at it.
2. Cut every "but" and "if you felt." Don't explain your bad day or bring up what he did. Say how it must have felt for him, and leave your reasons out.
3. End with one concrete change you will actually make, and don't ask him to forgive you by a certain time. Let him answer when he's ready.
Frequently asked questions
Q. How do I apologize without making excuses?
State what you did, say you're sorry, and describe the effect on him. If you want to give context, keep it to one short line after the apology, never before it. If it starts to sound like a reason he should feel differently, take it out.
Q. Can I send it so he reads it when he's ready, not the moment it arrives?
Yes. You can set an opening date, and the letter unlocks at 00:00 that day. You can also add a password and tell him only if you want, so it stays between the two of you. It goes as one link through any messenger, text or email, and he opens it in a browser with no app and no sign-up. Writing, sealing and sending are free.
